Mould / mould material moulds 200 × 200 × 40 mm; pre-growth in 4 L filter bags
Inactivation Oven drying
Inactivation – temperature [°C] 70
Inactivation – duration [h] 24
Specimen geometry boards 200 × 200 × 40 mm; bending 170 × 30 × 30 mm, λ 200 × 200 × 30 mm, cone 100 × 100 × 30 mm
Mass loss on drying [%] 50
Notes / observations Inoculum: mycelial pellets from liquid culture (glucose/peptone/yeast extract, pH 6, 14 days, 27 °C, 150 rpm), homogenised and mixed with the sterile substrates; 75 % distilled water added (basis not specified). Incubation at 20 ± 2 °C, 70 ± 5 % RH, dark. Mass loss = final moisture content of the group (given per substrate group only). Recipe in grams see Table 1 of the paper; shares here calculated from it. λ of the sawdust group according to the text approx. 50 mW/(m·K) (Fig. 6). D3 (pure sawdust without bran) broke under load – no bending values.
Substrate mix
  • 100 % Birch sawdust · mostly ≤ 3 mm
